Saudi authorities have announced that Hussein Al Shammari, who serves as an adviser on international media affairs at the Ministry of Media, has been summoned for questioning following comments he made during an audio discussion on the social media platform X concerning UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In a statement, the Media Regulation Authority confirmed that Al Shammari had been referred for investigation and that allegations related to cybercrime regulations had been raised against him.
The authority’s statement also omitted any reference to Al Shammari’s government positions, identifying him simply as a “citizen” rather than by his official title, a move widely interpreted as distancing him from his government role while the investigation is under way.
