Saudi Arabia issues a statement supporting FIFA president accused of corruption

Oryx Observer

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation issued a statement earlier supporting FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has been accused in a corruption case, and it appears that Saudi Arabia was secretly involved in the process.

Details of the corruption:

FIFA President Gianni Infantino faced a crisis in his presidency after his plan to establish a commercial company called FIFA Forward Enterprise was leaked. The company is estimated to be worth around $20 billion, with the commercial rights to FIFA tournaments, particularly the World Cup, to be transferred to it.

UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and CONCACAF rejected the project, accusing Infantino of bypassing governance procedures and deception. They threatened to boycott FIFA tournaments, while several European associations withdrew their support for his candidacy in 2027, and some called on him to resign.

The Saudi statement:

It called for direct dialogue between FIFA and the continental and national football associations to restore confidence, and reaffirmed its support for and appreciation of Infantino.
