The joint Kuwaiti-Saudi committee dealing with the dispute over rights to border oil fields between the two countries held a virtual meeting on Sunday morning, attended by Nimer Al Sabah from the Kuwaiti side and Mohammed Al Ibrahim from the Saudi side.

The Kuwaiti side accuses Saudi Arabia of failing to comply with the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 under the mediation of Gulf states.

Mohammed bin Salman visited Kuwait in 2018, and Kuwaiti activists accused him of bullying the Emir of Kuwait before a reconciliation agreement was reached in 2019 and the joint committee on the disputed Partitioned Zone, whose oil fields are contested, was established.

Kuwaiti citizens are no longer able to speak about Kuwait’s claims regarding the Partitioned Zone since Mishal Al Sabah came to power, following his dismantling of the National Assembly and independent press, the imprisonment of hundreds of citizens, and the deportation of thousands.

Due to the economic crisis facing Mohammed bin Salman, his ambitions regarding Kuwait’s oil fields are likely to increase, and he is not expected to move towards reconciliation.
