Pakistan has increased its financial requests from Saudi Arabia in recent days, seeking to exploit the climate of anxiety surrounding Mohammed bin Salman and his perceived need for protection following what appears to be the United States’ “ostensible” withdrawal of its protection.
So far, Pakistan has requested the following from Mohammed bin Salman:
▪️ A deposit of $5 billion in the State Bank of Pakistan for a period of 10 years.
▪️ Oil supply facilities worth $5 billion on deferred payment terms, with a repayment period of up to three years.
▪️ The securitisation of financial remittances sent by Pakistani residents in Saudi Arabia, and the activation of borrowing against them.
▪️ Saudi Arabia to act as a guarantor for Pakistan’s international sukuk issuances.
▪️ The provision of a concessional credit line to the Export-Import Bank of Pakistan.
▪️ Exempting commercial transactions with Pakistan from the requirement of bank guarantees.
▪️ The injection of direct Saudi investments into the Pakistani economy.
