Nepalese labour organisations said that 53 Nepalese workers are living in poor conditions in a workers’ accommodation facility in the city of Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, without pay for five consecutive months, and having stopped work for the past two months.
Oryx Observer reviewed the case and concluded the following:
👷♂️ The workers belong to a local contracting company.
👷♂️ The company carries out projects on behalf of the Saudi government.
👷♂️ The government cancelled the projects and did not pay the company its dues.
👷♂️ As a result, the company has been unable to pay the workers’ wages.
👷♂️ The Saudi government has ignored the workers’ crisis, leaving them to face their situation on their own.
