Bayraktar Akıncı Drone Destroyed After Its First Use by Saudi Arabia

Oryx Observer

Information from Turkey indicates that an official from the Saudi Ministry of Defence contacted Turkish government officials and representatives of the Turkish company Baykar this morning to discuss the downing of a Bayraktar Akıncı drone in Yemen following its first operational use by Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi and Turkish sides reportedly disagreed over the cause of the drone’s loss, debating whether it resulted from poor manufacturing or improper use. However, they reportedly agreed that it should not have been shot down because, according to their claim, Yemen does not have an air defence system.

A Turkish official is expected to visit Saudi Arabia within the next two days to conduct a technical investigation into the incident.
