Red Sea Film Festival Director Resigns Amid Power Struggle Within Mohammed bin Salman’s Circle

Oryx Observer

Shivani Malhotra, Managing Director of the Red Sea International Film Festival, has resigned from her position following months of internal tensions that emerged after the appointment of Faisal Baltyuor as Chief Executive Officer.

The dispute reportedly centred on operational projects and contractual matters.

Malhotra, widely regarded as the driving force behind the festival, joined the initiative in 2019 and played a key role in its development from inception. She remained at the helm of the organisation until the recent restructuring that brought Baltyuor into the leadership team.

A Reflection of a Deeper Rivalry

According to observers, the disagreement between Malhotra and Baltyuor extends beyond a personal or administrative dispute and reflects broader competition within the circle surrounding Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Faisal Baltyuor is generally viewed as being aligned with Turki Al Sheikh, while Malhotra is considered close to Prince Badr bin Abdullah Al Saud.

Against that backdrop, Malhotra’s departure is being interpreted as a sign of Turki Al Sheikh’s growing influence at the expense of Badr bin Abdullah within key centres of power linked to the Crown Prince.

Analysts suggest that the development may offer an indication of shifting internal balances and influence networks within the Saudi leadership establishment ahead of the next phase of political and cultural decision-making.
