Hejaz: Number of pilgrim deaths rises to 38

Oryx Observer

According to official data issued by national governments, the number of deaths among pilgrims ahead of the start of the Hajj season had risen to 38 as of Sunday, 10 May 2026, amid the Saudi government’s failure to follow up on and address the causes of these deaths, as well as its failure to treat the deceased pilgrims and their families with respect.

Saudi media has also ignored coverage of the disaster, provoking anger among the victims’ families.

The causes of death vary, but for them all to have occurred in one place and during one occasion calls for an investigation — something the Saudi government is not doing.
