The World Snooker Tour, based in Sheffield, has announced the termination of the Saudi Snooker Masters after just two editions (2024 and 2025), despite an agreement to stage ten editions.
The Saudi fund had signed a contract to host the tournament for ten consecutive years starting in 2024, in return for millions of dollars annually. However, it has now been cancelled outright amid a sharp decline in Saudi Arabia’s capacity to spend on projects, including efforts to enhance and “polish” its image through sport and entertainment.
