The family of an Indian fisherman named Maviran, who worked in the Gulf waters from Jubail, said that he was killed on 10 August and three of his companions on the boat were injured, amid uncertainty over who opened fire on their boat.

While one survivor initially said that the shooters were Saudis in a Saudi security boat, another said they were Iranians in an Iranian security boat, before Saudi Arabia imposed a ban on them and prevented them from making any statements.

The victim’s family said that his body is still being held in Saudi Arabia and is demanding that it be handed over.

Indian Minister of State Adhav Arjuna, for his part, said this morning that the Indian government is pressing for the repatriation of the body being held in Saudi Arabia.
