Tutor Perini said in a statement published on its official website that the US Army Corps of Engineers had awarded it a contract to build a number of facilities at Tabuk Air Base in north-western Saudi Arabia.
Although the contract was awarded by the US military, the bill was paid by Saudi Arabia, amounting to $42 million.
The contract includes the construction of:
- A helicopter maintenance hangar.
- A warehouse facility.
- A ground support equipment (GSE) facility.
- Infrastructure works.
It is reported that Tabuk Air Base is operated by US Central Command in coordination with Israel, and that Saudi Arabia is prevented from exercising full sovereignty over the base due to its geographical proximity to Israel.
The base has played various roles in protecting Israel and supporting US forces in the region for decades, including radar, aerial surveillance, early-warning and refuelling services.
