Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, arrived in Riyadh Wednesday morning to remind Saudi Arabia, and to press it, to fulfil its commitments to provide the group with financial assistance.

Around two years ago, Saudi Arabia pledged substantial support to the group. In addition to the promised government assistance, Saudi private-sector businessmen had also pledged investments. However, all of these commitments were later withdrawn. At the time, it became widely known among businessmen that the pledges had been made under the influence of media-driven enthusiasm, but that further assessment showed the decision had been premature.
