The United States Air Force announced on its official website that, on 1 July, it awarded Captain Nathaniel Welch the Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of his outstanding military service in Saudi Arabia.

The US Air Force said that the pilot carried out courageous military missions from Prince Sultan Air Base in Al Kharj, south of Riyadh, and put his life at risk on more than one occasion.
