Several senior Canadian university professors said in newspaper and television interviews that the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia is now worse than it was before Mohammed bin Salman came to power. Among their remarks were:
- Thomas Juneau – Professor at the University of Ottawa:
“There are no political reforms in Saudi Arabia, there is no political openness, and the human rights situation under Mohammed bin Salman is worse than it was before he came to power.” - Daniel Béland – Professor at McGill University:
“We do not endorse authoritarian leaders.” - Nelson Wiseman – Professor at the University of Toronto:
“The human rights record cannot be ignored.”
The Canadian university professors made these remarks to the media in response to the Canadian Prime Minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia.
